Due to Covid-19, Ashden's annual awards ceremony was not able to take place. This posed a unique challenge; to create a virtual awards ceremony that would showcase eleven award winners through a series of short films, provide a platform for different speakers and experts, convey the urgency of the climate crisis and bring everything together under a unique design identity.

This was the first opportunity to showcase the newly rebranded Ashden to a global community whilst working within the parameters of lockdown! All production had to be run remotely with no filming other than that which people could do themselves. The programme was presented by Julia Bradbury who brought an energy and authority to the format.

Moving to a televised style format that most people will be familiar with, the online awards celebration was designed to incorporate short segments of content interspersed with short films featuring the award winners.  Just like the big award ceremonies, all of the content was packaged together within a designed identity, complimentary to the new Ashden brand and tone of voice.

We unified the awards programme around the theme of URGENCY, JUST TRANSITION with a focus on how we tackle inequality and the climate crisis at the same time.


Alongside the short films featuring the winners, there were supporting segments including a keynote speaker Zamzam Ibrahim, former NUS President, informal 'Zoom' style chats and performances.
